Guests at The Curated Table event for Misgana African Art

Earlier this summer, I partnered with Misgana African Art to bring The Curator’s Table to life—an intimate, invite-only dinner for art collectors, designers, curators, and creatives who share a connection to African art. Hosted at Bole Road Textiles in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, the evening blended heritage and connection, from Ethiopian honey wine served during cocktail hour to a curated guest list of “brand besties” spanning the African art, furniture, and design community.

More than just another beautiful evening, the dinner became a masterclass in experiential marketing, embodying the brand’s core values: honoring legacy, elevating space, and building connection through community. The gathering didn’t just showcase the brand—it positioned Misgana African Art as a cultural connector and key voice in the African art space.

Experiential marketing creates interactive, in-person moments that allow people to experience your brand, not just see or hear it, but feel it. These experiences are immersive, emotional, and unforgettable. From pop-ups to private dinners, they help brands move from passive awareness to true emotional connection. 77% of marketers say experiential marketing is a vital part of their brand strategy.

For experiential marketing, think:

  • Pop-up shops, installations, activations

  • Intimate gatherings, dinners and experiences

  • Retail/brick & mortar space takeovers

  • Community events or art showings

  • Creative workshops or retreats

The Curator’s Table was a reminder that when you design an experience with intention—space, food, guest list—you don’t just host an event, you spark a shared moment that becomes part of your brand story.

Why It Works: The TMLN Take

Experiences Build Emotional Memory

When someone has a positive, sensory-rich experience with your brand, it sticks. The emotions felt—joy, inspiration, curiosity—become tied to your product or service. The result? Deeper brand loyalty, higher recall, and stronger word-of-mouth.

Community Leads to Conversion

People buy from brands they trust—and trust is built through meaningful connection. In-person experiences create space for real engagement, shared values, and authentic conversation. When your brand facilitates these moments, the journey from guest to client feels natural, leading to stronger relationships, more referrals, and organic growth.

Experiences Offer Valuable Brand Insight

Experiential marketing isn’t just about the moment—it’s also a chance to gather meaningful data. Use these gatherings to listen, observe, and even survey your guests. What did they feel? What stood out? What has been their experience with your brand? These insights can shape your future strategy.
